Orlando Pirates head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou has dismissed speculation surrounding his future, insisting he remains fully committed to the Buccaneers despite reports linking him with clubs in Europe and North Africa.
The Moroccan tactician addressed the rumours during an interview with Michael Morton, where he also reflected on Pirates’ ambitions for the new season.
Ouaddou addresses transfer speculation
Reports in recent weeks have linked Ouaddou with potential opportunities in Europe and North Africa following an impressive first season in charge of Orlando Pirates.
Responding to the speculation, the coach reaffirmed his loyalty to the club.
“I have read a lot of things that the coach has offers in North Africa and in Europe. People have to understand that I’m very loyal.”
Ouaddou also revisited comments he made after last season, when he admitted he was “tired” following a demanding campaign that ended with Pirates lifting three trophies.
He explained that his remarks had been misunderstood.
“I don’t understand why some people don’t understand that sometimes the coach can be tired, but it’s fine. I’m back. I recharged all my batteries. I’m not 100%. I’m 2,000%.”
Focus shifts to a new season
With the celebrations now behind them, Ouaddou says the squad’s attention has already turned to new objectives.
“We have celebrated this treble, but football… you have to move on. It’s a new season, new objectives.”
He stressed the importance of remaining humble despite last season’s success.
“Last season is now in the past. Now we have to work to bring success and to be very ambitious. We want to give hope and happiness to our fans.”
According to the Pirates coach, the upcoming campaign will be one of proving that last season’s achievements were no coincidence.
“It’s a season of confirmation.”
CAF Champions League remains a major goal
Ouaddou also admitted that Orlando Pirates are determined to make a deeper run in the CAF Champions League after last season’s early exit.
The coach described winning Africa’s biggest club competition as one of the club’s biggest ambitions.
“It’s one of our targets… it’s a dream for us, for the players and the technical staff to try and bring the second star for the club.”
After securing domestic success, Pirates will now look to challenge for continental glory as they prepare for the 2026/27 season.
