Former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Njabulo Blom is on the verge of another move abroad, with Indonesian Liga 1 side Borneo FC Samarinda emerging as the favourites to sign the South African international.
The 25-year-old is currently a free agent after leaving Vietnamese champions Thep Xanh Nam Dinh FC, and a move to Indonesia would represent his fourth club in five years.
Borneo FC lead race for Blom
Blom has become a major transfer target for Borneo FC as the Indonesian club looks to strengthen its squad ahead of the new season.
The move would also see him reunite with former coach Mauro Jeronimo, who is believed to be keen on working with the midfielder once again.
A return to South Africa had appeared possible earlier in the transfer window, but that option has now fallen away.
Stellenbosch move collapsed
Blom was heavily linked with Stellenbosch FC and even underwent medical tests as part of the proposed move.
However, negotiations ultimately reached a deadlock over personal terms, bringing the deal to an end.
With the Betway Premiership move no longer on the table, Blom’s focus has shifted towards continuing his career in Southeast Asia.
A career full of moves
Blom first left Kaizer Chiefs in December 2022, completing a move to MLS side St. Louis CITY SC on a two-year contract.
He impressed during the club’s inaugural 2023 campaign under Bradley Carnell before a change in coaching staff saw his playing opportunities reduced.
During the 2024/25 season, Blom returned to his boyhood club Kaizer Chiefs on a season-long loan, making 19 appearances under Nasreddine Nabi.
Despite his return, Amakhosi decided against exercising their option to sign him permanently.
In July 2025, St. Louis transferred Blom to Vietnamese champions Thep Xanh Nam Dinh FC ahead of their AFC Champions League Two campaign.
Unfortunately, a serious pre-season injury ruled him out for the entire campaign, preventing him from making a single competitive appearance before he was released in May 2026.
Fresh start on the horizon
Now fully fit and available as a free agent, Blom is preparing for the next chapter of his career.
Should the move to Borneo FC Samarinda be completed, it will mark his fourth club move in five years, as the former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder looks to reignite his career in Indonesia.
