Portuguese midfielder Miguel Reisinho has confirmed his departure from Mamelodi Sundowns after just one season with the South African giants.
The 27-year-old announced his exit through his personal Instagram account following discussions with Sundowns over a mutual separation, bringing an early end to a spell that never quite took off at Chloorkop.
Difficult Season at Sundowns
Reisinho arrived at Sundowns as a free agent from Portuguese side Boavista, signing a two-year contract with an option for a further season.
His arrival generated interest as Sundowns added another Portuguese midfielder to their squad alongside Nuno Santos, but Reisinho struggled to establish himself under head coach Miguel Cardoso.
Competition for places in Sundowns’ midfield limited his opportunities throughout the campaign.
Nightmare Start to Life in South Africa
Reisinho’s Sundowns career got off to a particularly difficult start.
The midfielder was sent off on his competitive debut during the 2025 Carling Knockout Last 16 encounter against Marumo Gallants.
That early setback was followed by a lack of consistent minutes, with Reisinho unable to secure a regular place in Cardoso’s starting XI.
Pre-Season Absence Fuels Exit Talk
Speculation surrounding his future intensified ahead of the 2026/27 campaign when Reisinho did not report for Sundowns’ pre-season preparations.
Instead, he remained in Portugal and continued working on his fitness independently as discussions regarding his future took place.
Those talks have now resulted in the two parties going their separate ways.
Sundowns Spell Comes to an End
Reisinho leaves Chloorkop well before the expiration of the initial two-year agreement he signed upon his arrival.
The Portuguese midfielder will now be free to pursue the next chapter of his career, while Sundowns continue reshaping Miguel Cardoso’s squad for another campaign across domestic and CAF competitions.
