Stellenbosch FC have officially announced the signing of former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder George Matlou on a long-term contract ahead of the 2026/27 season.

The 28-year-old joins Stellies after bringing his time at Kaizer Chiefs to an end, adding experience and technical quality to the Cape Winelands club’s midfield ahead of the new campaign.
Matlou made 46 appearances for Kaizer Chiefs and was part of the Amakhosi squad that won the Nedbank Cup during his time at Naturena.
Stellenbosch FC Complete George Matlou Signing
The midfielder becomes the latest addition to the Stellenbosch squad as the club continues preparations for the 2026/27 season.
Before joining Kaizer Chiefs, Matlou represented Moroka Swallows and also spent time in Portugal with Sanjoanense.
Stellenbosch FC CEO Rob Benadie believes Matlou’s experience and technical qualities can add significant value to the squad.
“George is a player we believe can add real value to our squad through his experience, technical ability, and understanding of the game,” Benadie said.
“His pedigree speaks for itself, and we are naturally pleased that he has chosen to continue his career with Stellenbosch FC. We believe he can play an important role in helping us achieve our objectives this season.”
New Chapter for Former Kaizer Chiefs Midfielder
The move gives Matlou an opportunity for a fresh start after his spell with Kaizer Chiefs.
At 28, the midfielder brings domestic experience to a Stellenbosch side looking to strengthen ahead of another demanding season.
His arrival will add another option to the Stellies midfield as the club looks to compete strongly during the 2026/27 campaign.
