Kaizer Chiefs could receive a boost in their pursuit of Stellenbosch FC youngster Langelihle Phili, with the player’s agent confirming that local options may be considered if a suitable move to Europe does not materialise.
The 21-year-old has attracted interest from some of South Africa’s biggest clubs, with Chiefs known to be keen on securing his services while Orlando Pirates have also been linked with the talented winger.
However, Phili’s immediate priority remains a move abroad.
Europe Remains Phili’s First Choice
Phili’s agent, Glyn Binkin, has confirmed that the player’s focus is currently on securing an overseas move and that Stellenbosch are aware of his ambitions.
“Phili’s priority and focus is to go abroad and that’s what we are working on and Stellenbosch are aware of that,” Binkin told Soccer Laduma.
The agent added that Phili and his family could assess other possibilities if the right European opportunity does not emerge.
“If we don’t find a suitable option for him abroad then the player and his family will assess the various options that exist in this regard.”
Those comments could provide some encouragement for Kaizer Chiefs, who have been strongly linked with the Stellenbosch youngster.
Kaizer Chiefs Remain Interested in Phili
Chiefs are understood to have already shown concrete interest in Phili, although their pursuit faces competition and the player’s preference for a move abroad.
The youngster previously spent time on trial with Swedish giants Djurgårdens IF in June 2024, underlining his long-standing ambition to continue his career in Europe.
If no suitable overseas offer arrives, however, the door could potentially open for interested local clubs to make their move.
For Kaizer Chiefs, that could present another opportunity to pursue one of South African football’s highly rated young talents as they continue shaping their squad for the 2026/27 season.
