Melusi Buthelezi has secured an immediate return to the Betway Premiership after being unveiled as Sekhukhune United’s latest signing ahead of the 2026/27 season.
Babina Noko confirmed the arrival of the former Orlando Pirates goalkeeper on Friday, 17 July, with the 28-year-old joining the club as a free agent following his departure from the Buccaneers.
Two-Year Deal in Limpopo
Buthelezi has signed a two-year contract that will keep him at Sekhukhune United until June 2028, with the club holding an option to extend his stay by a further season.
The move gives the experienced shot-stopper another opportunity to establish himself as a first-choice goalkeeper after spending the past two seasons at Orlando Pirates.
Replaces Chiefs-Bound Renaldo Leaner
Sekhukhune moved quickly to strengthen their goalkeeping department following the departure of Renaldo Leaner, who recently completed a move to Kaizer Chiefs.
Buthelezi now joins a competitive goalkeeping unit that also includes Zambian international Toaster Nsabata and Equatorial Guinea international Manuel Sapunga as Cedric Kaze prepares his squad for the new Betway Premiership campaign.
Strong PSL Record
Although opportunities were limited at Pirates, Buthelezi arrives in Limpopo with an impressive Premiership record built across his spells with TS Galaxy and Orlando Pirates.
Across 47 Betway Premiership appearances, he has registered:
- 25 clean sheets
- 35 goals conceded
Those numbers underline why Sekhukhune identified him as a reliable replacement as they continue rebuilding for the upcoming campaign.
For Buthelezi, the transfer also represents the chance to become a regular starter once again after competing for places at one of South Africa’s biggest clubs.
