South African teenager Emile Witbooi has been handed a major opportunity after Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich invited him to Germany as they continue assessing one of the country’s brightest young prospects.
The invitation was confirmed by Cape Town City chairman John Comitis, who revealed the club is considering allowing the 17-year-old to spend time with the German champions.
Bayern Keeping Close Watch
Speaking about Witbooi’s future, Comitis confirmed that Bayern Munich have made contact regarding the highly-rated attacking midfielder.
“We’ve got an invitation for him to go to Bayern Munich which we’re now considering, only just to keep him relevant for his own good to see which level he has to be reaching.”
The visit would provide Witbooi with another valuable opportunity to experience one of Europe’s biggest football environments while Bayern continue monitoring his development.
European Interest Continues to Grow
Bayern are not the first European powerhouse to show interest in the South African youngster.
In late 2024, Witbooi spent a month on trial with Premier League side Chelsea after impressing scouts with his performances. Although the London club considered integrating him into their academy setup, no permanent transfer materialised.
Represented by Roc Nation Sports International, Witbooi has continued attracting interest from clubs in England, Germany, France and Spain.
Local Speculation Addressed
Comitis also dismissed recent reports linking Witbooi with Orlando Pirates.
The Cape Town City chairman confirmed the Buccaneers have not submitted an offer for the teenager, despite ongoing speculation surrounding his future.
The midfielder has also previously attracted interest from Mamelodi Sundowns, while an earlier move to Kaizer Chiefs did not materialise.
Europe Beckons
Born on 28 August 2008, Witbooi is approaching his 18th birthday, an important milestone in his career.
Turning 18 will remove the restrictions surrounding an international transfer, opening the door for a permanent move to Europe should a suitable opportunity arise.
For now, Bayern Munich’s invitation represents another significant step in the development of one of South Africa’s most exciting young footballers.
