Espérance de Tunis have completed the signing of Brazilian forward Lucas Ribeiro from Libyan giants Al-Ittihad Tripoli, bringing a lengthy transfer process to an end.
The 27-year-old has signed a three-year contract with the Tunisian giants in a deal that also sees Jacques Diarra move in the opposite direction as part of a player swap.
Espérance Finally Get Their Man
Negotiations between Espérance and Al-Ittihad had been ongoing as the two clubs worked to find an agreement for Ribeiro’s transfer.
The breakthrough was eventually reached after Espérance vice-president and club legend Chokri El Waer travelled to Libya to finalise the agreement.
The deal has now been concluded, securing Ribeiro’s move to Tunis for the next three seasons.
As part of the agreement, Diarra will leave Espérance and join Al-Ittihad Tripoli.
Ribeiro Returns to North African Football
Ribeiro arrives at Espérance following a season-long loan spell in Spain with Cultural Leonesa.
The Brazilian forward made 31 appearances during his time in Spain, scoring six goals and providing two assists before returning to his parent club Al-Ittihad.
His move to Tunisia now provides another opportunity to establish himself at one of North Africa’s biggest clubs.
Major Addition for Espérance
Ribeiro adds another attacking option to an Espérance squad expected to compete for major honours both domestically and on the continent.
His experience across different leagues and ability to contribute goals could provide an important boost as the Tunisian giants strengthen their squad for the new campaign.
After lengthy negotiations, Espérance have now secured their target on a three-year deal, while Al-Ittihad receive Diarra as part of the agreement.
